Given that you are a die hard Beta Fan, you read my post about Pi Day last year.  The recently published Tau Manifesto argues that Tau, which is equal to 2Pi, is a much more intuitive number.

  • Pi is defined as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.  Proponents of tau will argue that people don’t relate to the diameter as much as they do to the radius of a circle.  As such, the more “important” constant should be the ratio of the circumference to the radius, or tau.
  • It has a value of 6.28, which should have been celebrated yesterday (June 28th).
  • Tau was chosen for the word turn, or tornos.
  • I had never thought about it in the past, but just about every occurrences of “pi” shows up in our financial industry, it actually shows up as 2Pi.

Will this cost me a few “Friends”?  Probably :-).  If you are a tau believer, then happy-belated tau day.
